I am the one Australian listener! I know Jim on Facebook. Currently not doing much in the way of geek hobbies as I'm studying for 15 hours a week and working 34 hours a week. Which leaves me with not much time at all.

Welcome Dave! We love our overseas listeners, even if we occasionally offend them with our lack of knowledge about their countries! Do you have any hobbies you would like to hear us cover or research? If it were a perfect world and you had lots of time what would you do with it?

Hmm.... At the moment I have a couple of unusual hobbies... I collect vintage shaving equipment. That started out as an attempt to save money using a double edge safety razor (blades for those are under a dollar each, compare to the price of cartridges), then I bought a dozen old razors off ebay with plans to clean them up and find which one is best for me (because using old stuff is cool). And I keep buying more (defeating the goal of saving money). I also knit (unusual for a man, not unheard of though - I have a book called Knitting with Balls which features many ball-related puns). That started off as a form of active meditation for an anxiety disorder.

One day I'd like to get an old car (something from the 70s or earlier) and do a restoration/conversion to electric.

Wow, collecting razors is quite the hobby! Is there a big following for them? I've determined through my life trolling antique malls and flea markets with my mother that almost everything has a collector but never ran into a dedicated razor booth.

Knitting has become much more popular in geek circles, I'm seeing some fairly famous folks do it these days. I don't think any of the hosts have taken it up, or if they have, they have hidden it well from the rest of us.

I'm sure there is plenty of history and great information hiding in razor collecting, if you decide you would like to chat about it one day you are welcome to join as a guest host.

Have a great day... night... umm, whichever it might be.

They are pretty cheap (unless you get one that's never been out of its packaging, which is very rare). The last lot I bought was two razors, two packets of blades and a strop for $15. Straight razors are usually more expensive. I'd have to do some actual research (instead of just the bits and pieces I've picked up off youtube comments) before I join in, but I might one day!

BTW there is a big traditional shaving community on youtube, lots of videos of how to get a good lather, comparison between different blades and brushes, barber shop shaves (the manly version of going to the beauty salon), even people shaving with swords (and one guy with a sharpened spoon).
